The new Molteno3^® design is based on the tube and plate principle pioneered by Professor Anthony Molteno in the 1970's and proven to be the most effective treatment for severe and complex cases of glaucoma that do not respond to hypotensive medication.

In a patient with glaucoma needing drainage surgery you should consider inserting a Molteno3^® when:

• A trabeculectomy in either eye has a failed
• The patient has primary open angle glaucoma with additional risk factors such as field loss close to fixation point or pseudophakia
• The eye also needs cataract surgery
• The patient has active uveitis
• The child has juvenile glaucoma or buphthalmos
• The patient has traumatic glaucoma
• The patient cannot cooperate with the medication regime
• The eye has neovascular glaucoma
