Oxyal in the BNF

16th March 2009

Oxyal appears in the March copy of the BNF (57) for the first time. Oxyal has been available on prescription since April of 2008 but sodium hyaluronate drops historically did not feature in the BNF. Due to the increasing popularity of sodium hyaluronate lubricating eye drops, the BNF has decided they should appear in Section 11.8.1 for Tear deficiency, ocular lubricants and astringents on page 596. Oxyal contains Protector, a filmogenous polymer that enhances the viscosity, making Oxyal behave like a thicker concentration without blurring the vision. See www.oxyal.co.uk for more information.
